Cedell Davis (Jahrgang 1927!) ist einer der letzten noch aktiven Bluesmusiker seiner Generation. Als vor etwa 20 Jahren Indierocker wie Jon Spencer oder Jack White ein Grüppchen alter Haudegen wieder salonfähig machten, gehörte Davis zum illustren Kreis der Fat-Possum-Artists wie R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough und T-Model Ford. One of the last original bluesmen alive, Fat Possum recording artist Cedell Davis has decided that he wants to tour Europe one last time. Cedell was born in Helena, Arkansas in 1926, and has played with many blues greats along the way including Sonny Boy Williamson II, Robert Nighthawk, Doctor Ross, Roosevelt Sykes, Robert Lockwood Jr., Sam Carr, and in recent years Kenny Brown, Lightnin Malcolm, Peter Buck of REM, Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Walking Papers). Buddy Guy recorded Cedell's song "She's got the Devil in her" on his incredible record Sweet Tea.
BRETHREN have backed up Cedell at the last 5 years at the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. They have also toured extensively across the country including the Deep Blues Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the Arkansas RIver Fest. Recently two members of Brethren father and son Greg and Zakk Binns played on Cedell's yet to be released live album along with the members of the Screaming Trees, and Peter Buck of REM. Cedell does not play guitar anymore since his stroke in 2006, but his voice is richer than ever singing a sad but beautiful swan song.
